What is its purpose?

This indicator assesses the number of VET providers offering internships for their students. Work-based learning such as internships enable the students to apply and expand the skills they learnt; assess their own interests and abilities; learn about future employers’ expectations; establish useful contacts and gain other practical competencies.

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

You need to find out whether the targeted VET providers have an internship scheme. VET provider with an established internship scheme has:

  > a network of partner businesses and other professional organisations offering internship placements for students;

  > assigned teacher(s) responsible for allocating interns to organisations and administration of the internship

  > guidelines for organisations accepting interns, including cooperation agreement, guidelines for mentors, time schedules, training plans, logbook for recording intern activities, intern assessment form;

  > guidelines for interns including cooperation agreement, time schedules, training plans, logbook for recording intern activities, intern self-assessment form, internship report form;

  > compliance with the national regulations related to student internships (if they exist).

You should interview a principal or other assigned staff at the VET institution to find out about the above mentioned points and check the relevant documentation. You can also observe or interview some interns at the workplace and interview business representatives to verify the information.
